Concert At St Mary's ... tinged with a touch of sadness
posted on 11 Jun 2012
Freedom Brass performed their first concert of the year at St Mary's church in Slough on May 26th. The free lunchtime concert featured music from american composers and opened with the amazing Canadian brass arrangement of Just A Closer Walk which feature Phill Bannister in sparkling form on Trombone. Showing off her wonderful tone on FlugelHorn Donna Tubb gave Alan Fernies arrangement of the jazz standard Misty which was followed by a rousing rendition of I got Rhythm. There followed a more mellow moment with both Donna Tubb and Steve Burgess on flugels playing Moon River. Liberty Bell was the chosen Sousa feature ( couldn't have an American theme with it ) and then switching to Cornets a beautiful arrangement from Matt Kingston of 2 of 3 Negro Spritiuals ( Swing Low Sweet Chariot and Where you there ). To Finish they got the toes tapping ( and a few singing ) with New York New York featuring our new player Rob Thrower on French Horn. The band was delighted to play to a wonderful audience and have already been asked back next year. Sadly this was the final concert for Tuba player Kenny Ralston who leaves us due to moving back home to bonny Scotland. We wish him all the best for the future and hope he stays in touch ( and joins us for a beer every now again when hes around :) ).

Freedom Brass is please to announce that it's search for a trombone player is now over. Phil Bannister has joined us on trombone ( despite a rather unusual rehearsal where we ended up rehearsing on a bandstand in Staines Lammas Park )!.
